Quit Smoking For Good

How many attempts does it take?  Turn failure into motivation... Plan, Plan & Plan for success and you can quit smoking for good

So how many times does it take for someone to attempt to quit smoking to actually realize it really is time to quit smoking, for good!  There really is no number for the amount of tries it can take before coming to its realization, but trying to determine an approximate number can be important for you.  Whether it is the number of days left for you to begin or an actually physical date which you have set aside, it all plays an important role in providing confidence as you start to near your actual “quit date”.  Now, the importance of the quit date is one thing, and giving yourself the adequate time needed to follow through is another.  This is a number that shouldn’t be calculated, remember it’s a process and just like any process time is needed based on your own body’s progressions.

This is something that should be in the mind set prior to quitting.  The right state of mind with the correct preparation can play a large role in successfully quitting smoking.  What all of this does is prevents you from feeling like a failure even though you weren’t able to quit the first or second time.

How many attempts to quit?

For the majority of current or ex smokers the usual attempt to successfully quit smoking is at least two tries.  For most, the perfect scenario would be a single attempt to quit and to do it successfully, but for a regular smoker two attempts at the very minimum is the usual to actually quit smoking.  What usually happens in the first attempt to quit smoking is the thought process of “it’s simple, let’s just quit”, but with that perspective a smoker has already set him/herself up for failure.  Why?  Because as the saying goes, failing to plan, is planning to fail.  It’s simple.  The first attempt is a “half go” let me just try approach.  No research or help is sought after and a very simple mind set is applied to the situation.  Once a day or a few go by, it becomes clear that trying to quit smoking is A LOT harder than initially imagined.

I don’t want to say it’s almost like practice, but yet at the same time it almost is.  As the failed attempts go by through out the days or months you learn something new about the process of quitting and should apply it to your current quit date.  Is this an unusual way of looking at it?  Maybe, but when looked at from different angles, you can start to see how this works.  And if you have attempted to quit few times already and have failed, you should start back from the first attempt.  Study why you failed, learn what you can do differently and maybe dissect the process to add a stronger plan/foundation for your next attempt (even if it’s your 5th or 10th).

Nicotine is one addiction that has similar holds to those addicted to a specific drug.  It has never been an easy addiction to rid of and it is almost certain that one attempt to quit will not effectively work.  This is usually being for the simple reason that the first attempts are plans taken out with the quitting alone mind set.  This will almost never work and finding help to quit is usually one of the better paths to take in a next quit date.

Planning For Success!

Going into something completely blind sided is like being hit in the back of the head with out ever seeing it coming.  This is what happens to those who never create a plan.  The challenges that will be faced during the process of quitting are very complex and understanding its significance prior to trying to quit is most vital to success.  If one understands the difficulty of quitting smoking, then that allows the ability to stake out a plan with a better position to see it through.

There is always a reason for someone to smoke and there is always something that causes someone to continue to smoke.  Based on if this will be your first try or fourth, knowing your own challenges that you will have to confront can give you the upper hand once in the “quit process”.  By this I mean if there are certain things, moods, situations, places, thoughts…etc. that cause you to smoke, you can work around this by planning for it.  You can try creating a solid precise plan to help avoid such situations.  If you know what the cause is, then find a solution to the situation.  This can be taken more in depth, so seeking advice and support is crucial in finally letting the habit go for good.

To break it down to a simpler form:

1.)     REASON:  You are smoking.  Why?

2.)     IDENTIFY:  The current life situations. The cause

3.)     PLAN:  Create a wall around the situation with a solid plan.

4.)     EXECUTE:  Follow through. Seek support, friends/family members; avoid others who contain the bad habit...etc.

Understand that all are not created the same.  Each individual is different and everyone should know this.  What can work for one, maybe be the complete opposite for another but the one constant that will never change is “the plan”.  And this is emphasis of this reading.

Jumping into the process to stop smoking with fifty percent mind and heart together will more than likely result in issues and road blocks.  It’s not how many times you failed to quit, but how many times you attempt to quit.  Once the mind and the heart begin to work together as one with a hundred percent approach, you will give yourself the advantage over the addiction.

Keep your plan simple, detailed and organized to make it easy to follow through.  Stay confident, feel confident, and know that this is one challenge that will not surpass you.  Remember, with failure comes success.  If you believe, then you will follow through, and when you follow through good things begin to happen.
